Description of the following video:

1
00:00:03,620 --> 00:00:05,380
I think META went very well.

2
00:00:06,340 --> 00:00:08,760
It was nice to see the number of students that came out,

3
00:00:08,800 --> 00:00:15,600
and to see what each speaker had to offer in terms of what they found very significant in their life

4
00:00:15,600 --> 00:00:18,100
that helped them get to the position that they were in

5
00:00:18,100 --> 00:00:22,120
and the responses that student had and questions they had as well.

6
00:00:22,120 --> 00:00:23,800
META was actually really fun.

7
00:00:23,800 --> 00:00:26,980
I had a whole bunch of opportunities and a whole bunch of professors

8
00:00:26,980 --> 00:00:33,540
and people from Eli Lilly, which I actually might have a job shadow, which I'm quite excited about.

9
00:00:33,600 --> 00:00:37,340
I think META was a form of hope; it was a symbol of hope

10
00:00:37,340 --> 00:00:43,280
to know that this is a space that was created just for them.

11
00:00:43,720 --> 00:00:48,560
It's a space where they can kind of reclaim their own stories, or reclaim their own

12
00:00:50,480 --> 00:00:56,160
their own pride, or even to know that there are people who want to reach out to them

13
00:00:56,780 --> 00:00:58,780
who find their stories meaningful as well.

14
00:01:00,020 --> 00:01:04,200
Meeting all the new people and having all the information brought in to you saying that

15
00:01:04,200 --> 00:01:09,360
nothing's impossible, basically that, just because you're a Mexican or Hispanic or Latino.

16
00:01:09,360 --> 00:01:12,380
There's more openings for you. It's not just the

17
00:01:14,080 --> 00:01:17,080
it's not just the title that they give you, it's you're more than that.

18
00:01:17,080 --> 00:01:18,100
You're an actual person.

19
00:01:18,100 --> 00:01:24,360
I think we need to start reaching out at an even earlier age, maybe even in primary school.

20
00:01:25,620 --> 00:01:28,620
But I'm glad that they came, and I think it's very significant because

21
00:01:28,620 --> 00:01:32,500
this is the point of their life where they're starting to construct an identity

22
00:01:32,500 --> 00:01:35,380
or they're starting to realize that they have a voice.

23
00:01:35,380 --> 00:01:37,380
or that they have something to offer.

24
00:01:38,300 --> 00:01:44,280
And weather they're questioning their significance in society or they know that they will have an impact,

25
00:01:44,660 --> 00:01:48,380
nonetheless, they are starting to become aware of their existence and what that means.

26
00:01:48,380 --> 00:01:53,540
And so I think, it's important to start at this age, so that when they get to college,

27
00:01:53,540 --> 00:01:55,540
and knowing that they will get to college,

28
00:01:56,600 --> 00:02:00,460
that passion will still be there and it's going to keep them going through college.

29
00:02:01,080 --> 00:02:03,400
I recommend a lot of students to attend META,

30
00:02:03,400 --> 00:02:08,640
even in Chicago, because it's a place where they can feel comfortable,

31
00:02:08,639 --> 00:02:13,800
where they can see students or even adults succeed.

32
00:02:13,800 --> 00:02:19,760
And that term of success can be very different, but nonetheless, we've made it somewhere

33
00:02:19,760 --> 00:02:25,200
and that we're still aspiring to reach new goals. And for them to see that there are people doing that,

34
00:02:25,200 --> 00:02:31,780
Latinos who have also struggled similarly and have been able to overcome,

35
00:02:31,780 --> 00:02:33,780
it's empowering for them.
